Smith County Preschool History

Smith County Preschool, operating under the rules of a Mothers Day Out Program is a ministry of the Carthage United Methodist Church.

The program is open to people of all religious preferences.  We emphasize Christian ideals but do not teach denominational doctrine.

The preschool has been operating year-round since it began as a Mothers Day Out in the summer of 1982.  It was originally under the direction of Nancy Moran and Sarah Frost.  The primary goal is happy children who look forward to Kindergarten.  We are working toward building a childs self confidence and improving his ability to share and cooperate.  Our desire is to help the children to become more independent.  A great deal of our energy and time is devoted to teaching the children to follow instructions, and increasing attentiveness and attention span.

During the day, we have numerous periods of free play, center activities, music, stories, filmstrips, outdoor play and workbook learning.

The children bring their own lunches, and snacks are provided by the parents on a rotating basis.
